Overview
If you are interested in the hidden gems of Antoni Gaudí, this tour is for you. You will enjoy a different perspective to the great artist work in an exclusive and unique way.
In this 5 hours private tour you will discover two exceptional works of Antoni Gaudí in a different way. During the tour you will visit not-commonly visited houses in Barcelona.
Casa Vicens was the first residential house designed by Antoni Gaudí, and displays a combination of all the artistic and historical movements that influenced the architect. Torre Bellesguard house shows you how Renaixença, an early 19th-century romantic revivalist movement in Catalan language and culture, influenced the architect.
Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló or La Pedrera are probably the most popular buildings of Gaudí in Barcelona but we believe that these two Gaudí houses included in this private tour are of such a beauty and originality that are a Must for Gaudi lovers.
ITINERARY
First, we will visit Casa Vicens (1883-1888). Shortly after finishing his architecture studies, the young Gaudí was commissioned by Manuel Vicens to build a summer house for him and his wife on the land he had inherited. The building is imaginative, modern and innovative and for the first time he uses many of the structural, decorative and symbolic elements which came to define his architectural language. In the building you will see many styles that influenced all his works: japonism, islamic art and nature.
After we wiil head to Torre Bellesguard (1900-1909). On the upper part of the roof terraces, Gaudí designed a “sentry walk” around the four façades, with spectacular views of the city of Barcelona, that make the building worthy its name, Bellesguard, which may be translated as “beautiful view”. If during this private tour you feel like having a couple of violonists musicians playing for you in this idillic place, we can arrange it for you at an extra cost.
The Royal Monastery of St Mary of Pedralbes, founded by Queen Elisenda de Montcada in 1327, with almost 700 years of history, the monastery stands as a unique testament not only to the monastic life of the Poor Clare community who lived there until just recently but also to the history of Barcelona and Catalonia.
After five hours of discovery we can leave you in a nearby restaurant located inside an Art Nouveau building and situated less than a kilometer away from Bellesguard. The place is called Asador de Aranda and we can book a table for you with no extra charge. Alternatively, we can leave you in the city center.

WHAT WILL YOU SEE
Casa Vicens (1883-1885), declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. In his first project he creates an innovative and original work that stylistically breaks with all that had been built previously in Catalonia. Casa Vicens is one of the first examples of the aesthetic renovation of art and architecture that took place throughout Europe at the end of the 19th century. It is the starting point of Gaudí’s artistic career and is considered one of the first masterpieces of modernism.
The reference to natural elements is not only present on the outside of the house, but through the integration of different decorative arts -forge, painting, ceramics, carpentry, mural decoration, etc.- Gaudí manages to get nature inside the house, thus creating a continuity between interior and exterior space.
The Bellesguard house, designed and built by Gaudí between 1900 and 1909, is located in the same place where there was an old castle erected by the king of the Catalan dynasty Martí l’Humà, who adopted it as his residence in 1410. The building materials are stone and brick, splendidly decorated with drawn mosaics and wrought iron details.
Very close to the house, which is privately owned and surrounded by a garden, you will find the viaduct built by Gaudí on Carrer de Bellesguard. The stone arches and their inclination remind us of the Park Güell, authentic retaining walls with the unmistakable seal of Gaudí.
The different rooms are grouped around the three-storey Gothic cloister. They include St Michael’s Chapel, the dormitory, refectory, kitchen, infirmary, storerooms, abbey room and chapter house, plus various day cells.
